Aged care reforms leaving
elderly worse off
21/05/26
WATCH: The Federal Government's new aged care reforms introduced late last year were intended to improve flexibility, strengthen dignity and human rights, and support older Australians to remain at home for longer. But for many Australians and their families it resulted in increased provider costs, reduced support hours and growing financial pressures.
People feel increasingly crushed under the weight of trying to preserve dignity, independence and care at home, often at significant personal cost to family carers who are quietly carrying the strain and holding together the very system relied upon by so many. Kangaroo Island residents April and Michael share their experience of living through what they describe as a system that is failing some of society's most vulnerable people at a time when support matters most.
