The driver at the wheel of a horror accident that claimed the lives of two men at Cuttlefish Bay on Kangaroo Island last year will stand trial in the District Court.
In an Adelaide Magistrates Court hearing last week, Wade Doyle pleaded not guilty to causing death by dangerous driving that killed his uncle Craig Doyle, 55, and colleague Ed Burrows, 26, a UK national.
He is charged with two counts of death by dangerous driving on 10 September last year. The court heard the offending was aggravated as it was alleged Doyle had a blood-alcohol reading of 0.08 or more at the time.
Doyle, 42, of Hackham West, is alleged to have been driving when the ute the trio were travelling in rolled off Cape Willoughby Road near a sweeping bend and crashed into a roadside tree about 11.30pm.
The passengers, who died at the scene, were well known in the community, having worked together on the five-star Sea Dragon Kangaroo Island boutique hotel about 27km from Penneshaw.
Doyle, who suffered minor injuries in the crash, is listed to appear in the District Court on 14 August for arraignment.
